Looking at getting a new/gently used car later this year. My commute is about 35 miles each way, with the majority of that on the freeway at 75-80 mph.

Started looking at plug-in hybrids due to a generally good mix of fuel efficiency and power, but will a long commute at high speed sap the battery such that I largely end up driving an unnecessarily heavy ICE? I've heard mixed reviews on that specific question. Any personal experience, and any specific models to recommend/shy away from, would be most helpful. TIA
