Definitely genetics. Light complexion, little skin pigment, blonde hair and blue eyes especially beware. It only takes a couple nasty sunburns when young to have skin cancer later in life. The more burns the more susceptible one is for them to be a problem. When doing your family history check on those in direct line including cousins who have had skin cancer. Over the years your immune system becomes less and less efficient at killing the abnormal cancer cells and the visible war begins.
In one conversation my dermatologist stated skin cancer is #1 cause for facial prothetics. Have been battling basal and squamous cell carcinomas for 40 years. Double digits now for mohs surgeries and 100's of precancers frozen with liquid nitrogen.
