Depends on the state, Nevada used to be crazy in this regard, we passed laws
to cap what you can win in most categories of damages for med mal. Surprise surprise, the insurance companies never lowered their premiums despite the number of cases falling off a cliff. Needless to say the main selling point for the reform, that it would lower premiums for doctors, ended up being BS.
