I've heard the opposite, weight daily and track it so you can determine average
This way outlier data points get washed out eventually with the average. If you do it once a week you are allowing for outliers and unusual events or change in your routine to impact your weight.

I am also a much bigger fan of how do I look versus what do I weigh. Do I look like I've added bad weight or don't look as toned as I want and that helps me reset my expectations/eating habits as needed.
