what does he do so poorly in order to support the constant claim of how bad he is.
People dislike Kalani’s emphasis on culture, yet they loved Bronco’s. Did Bronco’s emphasis yield better results? You’ll all scream YES from the rooftops, but put Bronco’s culture up against Utah, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, Utah State when Taysom went out, Boise State several times, TCU, Arizona in the 08 Vegas bowl talk about uninspired football. I don’t think there’s any coach on the planet who overemphasizes culture more than Bronco.
I think he’s clearly made mistakes and issues with disorganization have been somewhat clear. IMO, he’s willing to address those issues, and he has.
And in terms of recruiting, was Kalani all that bad? Or was independence all that bad?
From an SI article:
Additionally, the average 247 rating for BYU's top 10 defensive recruits has risen drastically from 83.2 in 2020 to 87.6 in 2024 and BYU's high school recruiting ranking has risen from 80th to 45th. Talk about your Big 12 recruiting bump.
Those of you who are more knowledgeable about recruiting than me can explain whether or not that’s substantial or not. But either way, Kalani is still the head man overseeing that improvement in recruiting.
And he’s overseeing the improvement in the defense, offensive line that will both certainly improve.
So fans who know about the changes he’s made who still insist results will be bad are the ones who need to explain why. I make no claim to his football X’s and O’s being the driver behind these changes, but they are in fact HIS changes since he’s still the head coach.
