This is where I may disagree with you. He takes a step with his right (1 step), then his left which becomes his pivot
(2 steps), then pivots a couple times, then lifts his left pivot foot and takes a step with his right foot (3 steps) and shoots. This is legal by the NBA rulebook, but is still 3 steps which is why some call it a travel.
To clarify, I don't disagree with your statement that it's not a travel. I disagree with your statement that he didn't take 3 steps.
