I realize LAX is a disaster in this regard, but some of the terminals connect through tunnels, not sure if all of them do. If so make sure he doesn’t go through security and goes straight to the Fiji air gate. Have him present everything to the Gate agent and they should be able to do everything that the ticket counter could do (and more)
