In a weird way...
...Utah's success is something that BYU fans could be proud of if they chose to see it that way. It's really been building since Fred Whittingham Sr was the DC at Utah and then hired Kyle as a position coach then as the DC.

Kyle had a very good track record as the DC at Utah and then as HC he has started to build on his success by bringing in other former BYU players to help him in elevating Utah's football program to try and be competitive in the Pac12.

There's a lot of BYU roots involved in this that both BYU haters/Ute fans don't like to think about/talk about/acknowledge and also Utah haters/BYU fans seethe over/don't like to think about/etc.

Although they're sometimes viewed as traitors by some hard core BYU fans, guys like Whitt, Sitake, A-rod, etc haven't "taken" anything away from BYU but they've just taken what they learned by playing for a great coach like Lavell Edwards at BYU and applied it at another school. This just adds to the legacy of Coach Edwards. He built one school into being a great football program and Utah right now sort of represents the next generation of that success.

I know some die hard Cougar fans will be outraged by this and rip into me like a monkey on a cupcake. I have as much fun as the next guy by taking the usual jabs at Ute fans and their team but all things considered (and rivalry put aside for an honest moment) they do have a good football team and program and it makes it a lot more fun being a Cougar fan having them be good than it would if they still stunk like they did in the 70's and 80's.
