Granted, nobody ever expects Ole Miss and Miss St to be playing better football than Alabama, LSU, Auburn, and aTm, as the teams from lowly Mississippi certainly have their own recruiting disadvantages when compared to those four teams. Good coaching certainly comes into play, for sure. But Ole Miss and Miss St still get to recruit the south, which is where the majority of NFL players come from.
At some point I think our fan base needs to realize that the odds of BYU ever fielding a true, national championship caliber team are slim to none. 1984 and its incredibly weak schedule aside, I don't know that we've ever done it (though 1984 certainly had a ton of NFL talent on it, along with a lot of those early '80's teams).
Bronco's 11-2, top 25 yearly goal is what's realistic for BYU, but it's a goal we haven't met since 2009. By Bronco's own standard, his teams have underperformed for 5 straight seasons.
