actions, fear of reprisal, shame, and exclusion (you don't belong), and far too little of an atmosphere for things like compassion, understanding, forgiveness, hope, growth, and belonging. Those latter principles are the ones that help people move to a better place, bit by bit, and the ones that should be fostered primarily over all of the others. If the system doesn't foster those things, then there's something wrong with the system.
