Young military families have a trick of their own

I've lived in wards with a lot of military. Right before a deployment the younger families will move their stuff into storage as the husband deploys so the wife and kids can move back home and stay with the parents. This also allows them to pocket $1000 plus a month on their housing allowance since they are living rent free with mom and dad. I've always been indifferent on this. Are they taking advantage of the free labor or really need to send the wife and kids back to mom and dad?
