When I was renting a Uhaul for our last move, I saw ads for movers where it was 2 guys for 2 hours for $100. I'm thinking if you have everything packed and it takes them an hour to load, an hour to unload, plus some drive time, then it comes out about right.
The only time we've actually hired professional movers was when we moved from Utah to Oregon. They loaded, shipped, and unloaded everything, and it cost $1500. It was only a 3 bedroom apartment, so it wasn't a ton of stuff, but the point is that even with shipping all of our stuff hundreds of miles in addition to the loading and unloading it was only $1500, I don't see a local move costing too much.
