I think you really need to look at SEC schedules
Looking at SEC schedules I counted a grand total of 7 true road games (though maybe I missed one). Seven (out of 14 teams), and the furthest away appears to be Missouri at Toledo.

While you also point out the first week of the Big 12 schedule, you neglect to mention that most SEC teams (including Alabama, which you ignored) play an FCS team in November. Let's see, OOC games for the SEC in November: Old Dominion, ULM, UT Martin, Presbyterian, South Alabama, Eastern Kentucky, Samford, Western Carolina, Charleston Southern, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech. That looks a lot like the Big 12 schedule in week 1, especially when the good games are only played because they are long standing rivalries played on rivalry week. While the SEC does seem to schedule better in Week 1 (to make up for November), they still have UT Martin, Southern Miss, Idaho, Temple, South Dakota State, and Utah State (scheduled before USU improved) the first week.

The seven SEC true road games that I noticed: Missouri at Toledo; Tennessee at Oklahoma; Arkansas at Texas Tech; Mississippi State at South Alabama; Auburn at Kansas State; South Carolina at Clemson; Florida at Florida State. Two of them are actually in a state outside of the SEC, though they are in states that border SEC states.

Now, they SEC does have three OOC neutral games: LSU vs. Wisconsin in Houston; Boise St. vs. Ole Miss (Atlanta); Alabama vs. West Virginia (Atlanta); though only one is a real neutral game.

I'm not trying to defend the Big 12's schedule, too many Big 12 teams have started scheduling down the last few year and hopefully that will change with the new playoff. But the SEC's is not any better; particularly when you look at just how few games SEC teams play outside of SEC states. If you include bordering states, then the SEC very rarely travels.
