Whoever you talked was pulling your chain, lying or doesn't know.

I have been one if those ball guys for several NCAA games. The kicker and punter come to me before the game and say, "here is the ball I want to use when we punt/kick. Can you please make sure it's used when I go out there?"

The kicker ball is pumped to exactly what they want and are more rounded then the other balls.
