TCU 2008 is the game that made me question my commitment to BYU
We were 6-0 going into that game. While we had squeaked by Washington by one*, we'd also had the shutout pastings of UCLA and Wyoming. We were ranked #9 and were riding a 16-game winning streak, which lead the nation at the time. It was a Thursday night, and I took the day off work because I was just too excited for the game.

Then came the game.

TCU jumped all over BYU from the beginning. Max Hall was sacked and fumbled on the opening possession. TCU put up 26 points before BYU got a single touchdown in the last 5 minutes. Final score 32-7, but it was never that close.

After the game I was completely devastated. It felt like I'd wasted the last few weeks of my life. I was not fun to be around for the next couple of days. At that point I resolved to never let myself get too high on BYU again, because I couldn't stand the inevitable fall. While it's fun to talk about what would happen if BYU goes undefeated, I'm not going to set my heart on anything until the clock hits 0:00 on our last game.

* I was in the South-West corner of Husky Stadium about 15 rows up from where Jake Locker scored his infamous touchdown in that game. I distinctly remember seeing him toss the ball up and feeling like he was showing off/rubbing it in BYU's face. Debate the call and the rulebook all you want, but the vibe in the BYU section was that he was showboating.
