Ronney returned kickoffs during his freshman season. Keep in mind, he only played football for 2 seasons at BYU--1996 & 1998. In 1996, they could afford to use him on kickoff returns because they had RB depth with Brian Mackenzie and Mark Atuaia. In 1998, there wasn't any depth--Ronnie was the man. Lavell wasn't going to risk his best offensive weapon returning kickoffs.
