The Bronco decision
A lot of people have weighed in on whether Bronco should be kept or let go. In my opinion however, that question seems to be driven by emotion, and is not really the right question. Rather, the more analytical and appropriate question is “Are we going to be able to get a better coach?” And that is why it is so appropriate to ask about possible replacements—especially given the relatively small number of potential applicants.

At the really high powered programs the issue of possible replacements is not as critical—when Saban leaves Alabama there will be a long list of qualified applicants. Alabama might not make the right choice, but they will have plenty of options that, at least on paper, look good. I don’t think BYU has the same luxury—and of course most schools don’t.

To me the current situation is that Bronco is somewhere between a good to very good coach. So the question is, what is the likelihood that BYU can get a very good to great coach? I won’t opine on this, since others are more informed on this question than me.
