You never warn them you have a gun. You tell them to stop and leave.

Their actions after those commands determine what happens. If they run, you let them go, even if they have your stuff; they live.

If they turn to confront you, then you shoot.

You never brandish or warn that you have a firearm in your own home. (And just about everyother situation/location.)
