Nice Post. Fair Commentary
As bummed as we all would naturally be over blowing any real or perceived opportunity to join what currently exists as the Big 12, it was very tough for BYU to know what moves to make without a perfectly functioning crystal ball.

As you point out, at the time, the Big 12 could've been on the brink of falling apart, and BYU had little incentive to enter into something that looked as though it could've been The MTN 2.0. I don't know that we did or did not handle things as well as we could have, even in light of the circumstances at the time ("unique culture" and other comments make me think we could've done better--maybe a lot better). But we didn't have the benefit of hindsight that we now enjoy.

Sucks that the B12 shipped sailed without us and has the potential of never docking near our shores. But in a time of flux, the chips fell the Utes way and not ours.

Our bigger, and immediately pressing problem, is how to recruit. We've seen an alarming drop in talent over the Bronco administration that seems to have accelerated lately. We need great players in Provo. Get that, and we have the chance of rebuilding the program to the point where a big-boy conference might take another look at us a some point.
