Spot on BYU should have seen the opportunity with an unstable big 12 instead of
the risk. The opportunity was the Big 12 was desperate so they were willing to accommodate Sunday play and geography issues. Instead they focused on the risk of the Big 12 falling apart. If BYU would have never gone independent I believe they would be in the big 12.

But they found themselves in a better spot then they were with the MWC and didn't want to lose it. They loved the deal with ESPN, BYUtv, and didn't want to offend the WCC. I believe all of those could have been recovered if the Big 12 fell apart. I think BYU would be more valuable to ESPN as a former big 12 member trying to go Indy then a MWC team going Indy. However I think they would have been better off with Kstate, Baylor, TTech etc if the big 12 fell apart than Indie. There wasn't really that much risk and it was an opportunity BYU had to take, but unfortunately did not.
