Sorry but how many times does it need to be said that the Big 12 never / never
extended an offer to BYU. The Big 12 was vetting BYU, but once again despite the rumors BYU was never offered. it is easy for someone, who wants to miss lead a board to say BYU was offered. This creates questions and even hard feelings towards the program - how dare the administration turn down an offer!

With no offer from the Big 12, BYU is not looking in the rear view mirror. Instead, they continue to build relationships within the Big12.

The offer BYU turned down was within the AAC. Depending on the Big 12 and access to the Playoffs, BYU may one day accept the offer to the AAC. I believe it's an open invitation.

However, I believe if the Big 12 are left out of the playoffs with a one loss champion they will look to expand in the off-season. I understand the Big 12 knows having a championship game would elevate their status with the other conferences and selection committee. The SEC and other conferences are not happy the Big 12 does not have a championship game.

If expansion comes, I have been told by my friend within the Big 12, BYU along with either UCF or Cincinnati will be the choices. Colorado State could be an outside choice over the last two schools. Making them an outside choice has to do with West Virginia's desire to have a travel partner and regional rivalry.

Another possibility is the Big 12 expands to 14 teams (they do hold the rights to the Big 12 and Big 14). However, I don't see them diluting the payout by four additional schools at this time. Adding two schools brings stability and opens the door wider for a spot in the playoffs in the future. This is enough to overcome the dilution two schools would probably bring to the conference.

Side note: My friend has mentioned several times how envious the schools within the Big 12 (including Texas) are of BYU and it's television network - BYUTV. Unlike the LHN, BYUTV has the ability to broadcast to vast audiences outside of the United States, millions of homes within the U.S. and the quality of broadcasting the conferences championships even when is not BYU playing. This is starting to be seen as a major plus among some schools (quality and exposure for their school and the conference).
