I never said people absolutely don't have perceptions about race and talent. I said if people think you are good, they think you are good. Nobody begging for Jackson over Bills. Nobody would beg for Jackson over Sorensen if he were there, or Rich. Why? Because race doesn't matter to them (at least as much) once they see the product on the field.
The whiners thought PoVey just wasn't good, regardless of race. They all saw how he was out of position at corner and that assumption just stuck with them and carried over to him as a safety. If he was black and played exactly the same as a corner, people would say the exact same thing. Rob Daniel is black and a lot of people were complaining about him at corner. I thought they were supposed to be in love with him????? Well, they judged based on what they saw in some of his struggles. Race didn't matter.
At some point, what fans are whitnessing in production on the field trumps thoughts about race. Unless they're complete idiots. Obviously there are always a few strange cats. But for the most part, I think people were looking at what has already been suggested. That Jackson was once a 4 star recruit and from Nebraska while PoVey was a walk-on. And like I said, one who they already developed a mindset about from the year prior when he was out of position. The bar was already set.
