BYU has an athletic budget of 60 mil, 20 above
BSU. In order to feed the beast BYU needs a healthy Media contract. BYU makes 9-11 mil from ESPN Football contract, about 500-700k from their basketball contracts with ESPN and others, 1.2 mil from BYUtv sponsorships for football game and basketball.
How can the MWC pay BYU 11-13 mil when Boise is only getting 5 mil a year?
How many football tickets would need to be sold to get an additional million dollars a game?
MWC cant offer what BYU needs. Maybe one day AAC or MWC football only could make partial sense if BYU can keep their ESPN contract, but Livecoug, I think a scheduling agreement is better so BYU can get more big time teams and make ESPN happy. Ultimately fully going back to be a G5 has more minuses than plusses. BYU gives up a scheduling preference from the P5s and too much money.
