Money is only part of it

but it's a huge part. BYU will experience too much economic disparity with the P5 to be competitive as an independent.

Money isn't everything though. A lot of fans don't care about exposure or money. The season bores them after the first loss because there's nothing to play for. Lavell lived for the conference championship. Anything that happened after that was gravy. Playing for the Miami beach bowl after a bunch of other meaningless games is not very satisfying.
