1. It means the cost of living for BYU athletes is typically higher than most other student athletes because BYU athletes are more likely to actually have real lives (spouses, kids, etc.) and the real expenses that come with them.
   
2. It means there won't be any more football players working part-time jobs on campus where they can be pumped for information by my awesome (TIC) "inside sources."
   
3. It's a signal to the P5 establishment: we're one of you. In fact, one of the better ones.
   
4. It's a signal to the BYU players, coaches, and faithful: we're committed. And we will win.
   
5. It's a middle finger to Dr. Chris Hill and co. Given with oh so much more finesse than the one Hill gave us re:scheduling via the Trib.
   
6. It therefore means we can soon expect to pay even more taxes to subsidize USU and UofYewt athletics.
   
7. It's another reason for all the doubters and haters to start licking their chops in the case of another disappointing season.
   

And to those who don't like the idea of paying athletes: high-end academic scholarships are no different. They include four-year commitments for everything from tuition and books to room, board, and extra spending cash. In this world, stars get paid, regardless of their field. Universities are no different. They throw a few thousand dollars at a bunch of athletes or young scholars in the hopes that one or two of them will prove to be a prestige jackpot.
