Your pics show it all.
The photo in the middle show a classic homerun swing. The photo on the left shows a slashing line drive type swing. Bonds completely changed his approach at the plate later in his career. This was partly due to the fact that he was injured much of 1998 and realized he could not be the same player. It also has to do with the change of park. The bottom line is he completely changed his approach.

Did steroids help? Certainly. But a lot of players took steroids when Bonds did (most did). None of them came close to doing what Bonds did on the field. If Bonds had taken steroids and concentrated on HRs his whole career, he would have hit 1000+ HRs. As a hitter no one past Mays comes close to him.

And I am not saying this as a Bonds fan. I am an A's fan. I hate the Giants. But as a fan of baseball, I watched Bonds a lot and he was in another universe compared to everyone else.
