The B12 may have meant that in the long-run, payments per team would drop once the new contract has to be negotiated. The 2 new teams wouldn't add enough value to bump up the new TV contract to keep the same amount, either in actual $$ or in terms of % of the total contract, going to the current 10 members.
Again, I doubt that is the case and it is a head scratcher as to why they collectively put their heads in the sand, did nothing, and had two teams left out of the playoffs as a result. There maybe some years where the ball bounces just right and they get in BECAUSE they don't play a championship, but I would bet that will be the exception rather than the norm
