In North America and Europe the sabbath is on Sunday. Would you rather we were strict about the 7th day like Jews and Adventists? That would help our college football chances.
In Hong Kong there is a sacrament service every single day of the week because the domestic staff (usually Filipino) work 6 days out of the week and their day off could be any day. So it was either make 1000s of people miss sacrament or work with the system. The Church allowed Steve Young to hold a sacrament meeting in the bleachers on game days for anyone who was LDS on either team or in the production crew. Neither of these things is an example that would justify BYU playing college sports on Sunday.
