Coaching Tree...
One of the many things Bronco catches flak for is his coaching tree or lack thereof. The CB 'cognoscenti' pile on Bronco for his hiring history but ignores what goes on in every other program in the country. There are plenty of programs that are constantly 'trying on' new coaches. Sure some of that is because of poaching and promotions, etc. but just as much is due to perceived poor performance. Very few programs are immune and all are constantly trying to get better.

Where is Rose's coaching tree? And why isn't CB piling on him? Sure Rose has some guys who have been pulled from the staff. Some may point to guys like Dave Rice but anyone who has left including Rice have pretty much flamed out wherever they've ended up. But why hasn't anyone made the comparison between the hiring of Quincy Lewis and Nick Howell? That's conveniently ignored.

I said it before, I don't mean to pick on Rose. I just think there are some glaring inconsistencies by the Bronco antagonists. Like Bronco, I appreciate all that he has done to elevate/restore BYU to its current level of competition and consistency. I definitely hope to and expect to see further improvements from both programs but think anyone who thinks we can easily do better is fooling themselves. Many will point to the current state of college athletics and say that we are at a critical junction where if we don't have a special season we will fade into irrelevance. This is possibly true but I would argue that we are still relevant whereas if we drop either Rose or Bronco and have a 2 or 3 season rebuilding phase where we don't reach the NCAA or a bowl game, it's all but assured we fade into obscurity. We can't lose the foothold that we have. Plenty of traditional top 25 programs have had down years/decades but because of the clout they have built up over time, they stay in the conversation. I think BYU still fits somewhat in that regard. And Bronco/Rose carry alot of the clout outside of the fanbase. Most pundits will still admit that BYU is dangerous enough in any given year to shake things up, even if they aren't as consistently powerful as the big 5 programs. BYU is still there, bubbling just under the surface. If either program loses that edge, due to a poor choice in the coaching carousel, we could lose our foothold forever.
