She's not dying. She doesn't want to go because it's inconvenient.
Look, I get it. If she's like my wife, who has a bunch of young kids at home and has some social anxiety at times, she's probably exhausted and feels gross because she hasn't had time to shower in a day or two and has been changing diapers and doing dishes all day. It's overwhelming and exhausting just thinking about how much work women go through to pretty themselves up. That being said, he made a commitment. It's poor form to cancel like that at the last minute. Also, I'd bet a week's pay that she would be glad she went after the night is done.
