many were still young and inexperienced in '04 they also played #11 toughest SoS
Beck was just a sophomore in 2004 and still figuring out how to play QB. His leading WR was a true freshman that year (Collie), Dennis Pitta was the 4th leading receiver as a freshman, Curtis Brown was just beginning to emerge as a sophomore RB (leading rusher with 700+ yds), future NFL lineman like Rey Feinga and Travis Bright were freshman, etc.

A lot if not most of the future NFL talent in 2004 were only freshman or sophomores with more joining them in Crowton's last recruiting class that signed after the 2004 season was over (2005 class included NFL talent like Harvey Unga, Manase Tonga, Vic So'oto and Matt Reynolds) or were still on missions or redshirting post-mission (David Nixon, Dallas Reynolds, Bryan Kehl, etc).

The pipeline was loaded with NFL talent even with a lot of the recruiting problems involving those players from the 2004 class and with schedules getting significantly easier starting in 2005 and those NFL players hitting the field and becoming experienced I've found it interesting to think that in BYU sports, this is one of the biggest "what if's":

"What if Matt Payne had hit that easy chip shot FG at the end of the BSU game in 2004?"
