Crowt on was building for the future
If you don't recognize the fact that BYU had a major dearth of experienced talented from 2002-04, then you haven't reviewed those rosters. Bronco would have had similar records. Lavell was by far the best coach in BYU history, but he was letting the program slide at the end of his tenure. He was very fortunate to get to 6-6 in 2000. Crowt on absolutely killed it in 2001 to get to 12 wins. I agree with the OP that the course of history changes if Payne beats Boise. Crowton likely stays and wins at least 6 in 2005. With a stacked 2006 roster, the program turns the corner. I agree that Crowton had a poor recruiting philosophy and made some big mistakes in other areas, but he was a dramatically better recruiter than Bronco. I could list the players Crowton brought into the program, but it would absolutely devastate your claim that Crowton ran the program into the ground in every way. You might want to do your homework next time you make such a silly claim
