Livermore real estate prices aren't that much lower
than Pleasanton and the rest of the bay area. If you want the dramatic reductions in values, you'll have to go out to Tracy/Mountain House and take the ACE commuter train into Fremont and drive from there.
The commute is probably over an hour each way just from Livermore to Palo Alto. Getting up early doesn't help unless it's like 4 AM. The traffic does tend to lighten up around 7 PM.
