I think I understand what you're saying - I just think that NY6 is BYU's ceiling
If BYU is gunning for a playoff spot, then independence is better than a G5 conference. If BYU is shooting for the NY6 games (a more realistic goal IMO), then a G5 conference would be better.
Not saying BYU should have stayed in the MWC! That was a funky situation with a inexplicably antagonistic commissioner and a terrible TV deal. If BYU doesn't leave, I'm convinced that the MTN and Versus would still be carrying MWC games... But BYU would dominate the G5 field, and I think fans would be happier if BYU's P5 wins/close losses came at the end of the year (in bowl games) rather than at the beginning of the year (getting everyone's expectations up and then dropping them before September is over).
