I think your preference for style of play is biasing you to whether BYU could compete with a slow down, physical brand of basketball. This is what made Majerus successful and some of the big 10 teams like Wisconsin and Michigan State which play a pretty physical brand of basketball.
Does Rose's style fit BYU's recruiting profile and maximize its success? The Wake Forest game and the Baylor game at home also affect my thinking. I thought that BYU had the skills to win both of those big games and were out coached. (of course, in Baylor's case cheating doesn't hurt and Jeff Teague is a great player.)
You have to admit that there has been a major drop-off in the last 4 years from the years before that. A big part of my thinking that Rose is a good coach, not a great one is that Collinsworth and Haws are outstanding players and the team has under performed. Isn't is quite possible that if that were not the case, that recruiting would have been even better and the Jimmer level would have remained?
This year will be a very telling one. Recruiting is all hype until you win games with them.
