I never set my drill down on the battery, I always

lay it on the side. Just a little precaution I take. My grandkids soon learn to never set it upright.......

I'd get the regular drill to drill holes, impact to drive screws, bolts, etc.

20v is preferable but more $$$ 18v is more than sufficient for a DIY guy.
