Coach Edwards would handle the craziness of today's "bombshells"... Bronco no doubt, needs to be and is the best baby-sitter head coach in the history of BYU and I am grateful he runs a tight ship. I think he might even be the best person for the job right now and in turn, I have become much more complacent in my expectations with Bronco at the helm...
But the theme of your pushback really isn't at the center of my angst when folks try and place Edwards and Bronco on the same level. My opinion is not subject to the times. Spending much of my career in Public Relations, I probably look at Bronco's public history and behavior more critically than most, especially when his actions or words are negatively affecting BYU through the media or what chaos his behavior might be creating behind the scenes at the athletic dept (Jersey-gate a telling example).
I still submit that MUCH of the angst Bronco has and will face is due to his own self-centered, self-inflicted, offensive comments and actions that are not subject to era or added scrutiny...these were NOT the traits or behaviors of Coach Edwards.
Coach Edwards in fact reminds me of Coach Rose with how he handles himself in public... Always professional, always deflecting attention away from his personal opinions, keeping it on the game and players, avoiding needless tangents, or subtle innuendo that just tend to muddy things up.
Anyway... good debate, thanks
