RealityCheck makes an excellent point. We will move away from geographic areas towards specific match-ups. The teams and conferences that can provide those match-ups will thrive in that system. Auburn vs. Alabama is something viewers want to watch nationwide. USC vs. Notre Dame is another.

I assume that the teams who add the most value week in and week out will be the benefactors. Conferences will want teams who move the needle in viewership. The colleges and bowls will have little say over the new model when the shift happens. If I am Disney, I let ESPN know that they are on a short leash and that a Disney representative would have to sign-off on future deals which reached a particular threshold.

BYU is nimble and might find being independent to its advantage in a new viewing model.
