There is the underlying assumption from many that LDS church membership=BYU fanbase. This is faulty logic. Of the 15mil members world-wide, how many of those do you really think are big-time BYU fans, honestly? This mentality is also somewhat excluding the real, albeit fairly small, number of non-LDS fans of BYU. Serving my mission in Poland, I never met a single member of the church that was a BYU fan in any sense of the word, not for football, basketball, or any other sport...not one. I would imagine the same could be said of most missions outside of the US.

I would imagine that when analysis of the BYU fan base is conducted, this might be somewhat of a sticking point. I might be wrong, but I don't think I am.
