Even disbanding the HC office completely probably wouldn't work just based on the fact that not EVERY BYU student is LDS, or even religious. Yet, each student agree to the "code." So, who would they be accountable to if all HC "enforcement" is turned to the Bishops/SPs. Why have a law/"code" if there is no way to enforce or have any consequences (thinking of principles clearly taught in the scriptures, not philosophy or theory).

But, if the accusations that have come out are even half way as accurate as reported to the media, BYU needs to carefully measure the policies in place, how accusations are investigated, and whether or not full amnesty should ever be offered. Full amnesty (with the HC in place) raises other problems that have to be accounted for. There simply is NO easy solution, yet everyone is clamoring for a quick change, quick response from BYU to make a radical change.

Heaven help us all if any BYU students begin a hunger strike because I am sure it will happen soon enough, even if it is not over this "scandal."
