While the claim is not fully studied, to say it is absurd is absurd. The

authors of the original study that came up with the number acknowledge that it is not predictive of the country as a whole and acknowledge low response rates, but the thing they call absurd is extending it to say that 1 in 7 college women have been raped. The author of the article in the OP didn't make that extension.
