It's not that you have high standards and the "gentiles" don't
It's that our affiliation with BYU might make us appear to be bigoted, small-minded, backwards, and radical.
If they ever had a conversation with us, they'd probably come away from it liking us. We'd have a chance to correct the record a little bit, pitch our values in the best light possible, and make friends.
But if you or I are just a resume in a pile of resumes, and the environment becomes more and more toxic for BYU, we may not get the chance to correct the record. The HR guy could easily think any number of things as he tosses yours - and the crazy thing is, he might think he's doing the rest of the company a favor by not interviewing a wierdo.
