Below average that are accepted based solely on race or gender. What your kids need to do is make their application different than other BYU kids. I had 100's of hours note taking for blind / mentally challenged people at school. I helped build houses for poor people. I had hundreds of hours shadowing people in the field I wanted to be in, I did research, I got a non-biology major, I got a psychology minor to help with all the psychos. I also got 10+ interviews and had several quality programs to choose from.
There are many ways to make yourself stand out. Especially with run on sentences.
