A lot of alumni were unhappy during the Bronco years. See Jason Buck's rant as

This part is certainly telling as it relates to the recruiting process: "Some college coaches make highly recruited teenagers feel like rock stars during the recruiting process. Mendenhall has said that players need to recruit him and show a strong desire to attend BYU."
If I had Stanford coaches treating me like a rock star while they are constantly winning 10 games and going to the Rose Bowl, and Bronco is sitting there telling me that I need to recruit him, I know where I would go.
