you're obviously wrong about collie having difficulty getting open, but your point about drage running circles around guys is ludicrous. first of all, pass defenses weren't nearly as sophisticated as they are today. while collie had coverage rolling to him, zone blitzes, press man etc. Drage benefited from not seeing any of that. his job was simple. collie's was not.
next, and probably more important, drage was playing against teams that simply weren't seeing such a wide open offense. it was like teams playing against the triple option today. you can't just pick that up in a week.
there is simply no comparison here. for you to chalk up Collie's success to his being bigger just doesn't work. that only works to Collie's favor, especially considering that we know that Drage wasn't' seeing press, ever.
