I signed with the NHSC my 4th year of medical school because I knew I wanted to go rural and thought, "if this is what I know I want to do, might as well get the money ". Wrong. I'm coming to find my options are very limited, and working rural is very different than working underserved rural. They will dump $120k into my loans for a 3 year commitment, but the pay differences from some of the places approved and other places can be up to $100-150k A YEAR. Plus I have to deal with the federal gov telling me when and how I can talk to potential employers
