I think BYU grads aren't nearly as influential in the world as we could and should be.... one reason is that so few end up in the most influential companies (and because so few end up in decision making rolls at the best companies). Accordingly, we less often have a seat at the table and we less often are in a position to give an opportunity to other LDS workers.
Think of Kim Smith..... think of how much good he's done for LDS workers.... we need more Kim Smiths and we'd have more Kim Smith's if BYU had a better perception among the best companies.
There are real consequences to dumbing down the student pool at BYU.
edit: and there are real consequences to watering down the quality of professors - a consequence that certainly would occur with a large addition of students over a short period of time.
