IN MY OPINION, Rose, Judkins, and Bronco have shown great promise at some point, but then sat back in their arm chair and just enjoyed the fact the can "get by" with what BYU naturally attracts and hire out of convenience. I think Rose's staff makes a great case for this opinion.
Nashiff, former player > Director of Ops > Assistant Coach.
LaComb, Ball Boy > High School ASSISTANT Coach > Film guy > Director of Ops > Assistant coach.
Lewis, I actully think he was a good hire, but question whether he is fitting in on the staff. He doesn't seem too engaged. Can't gripe about his credentials. Lots of coaching experience under his belt.
May, Student Manager?> HS Club Coach > SLCC Assistant> BYU Director of Ops. If the trend holds true, he will likely be the next assistant if someone leaves.
Judkins currently has his staff filled former practice players, club coaches, High School coaches, and former players with zero coaching experience on his staff. I do admit, Judkins is probably having his best years as of late.
Bronco never brought in real coaching talent around him and only made changes when he was being pressured. Stuck with coaches that should have been canned. When he did make changes, he just moved people around on the staff, never really fired people. Maybe one. But he is gone and I think Sitake has hired some real talent on the coaching staff.
Wasn't what made LaVell so great that he would seek out great assistant coaches? All I have seen in the past decade are coaches that are more concerned with filling a position than getting great coaching talent around them.
