you'll never keep talented assistants. They all want to be HC's and make names..
...for themselves. As the HC you have to always be on the look out for eager young talents and hire them when you can and expect that if you got a good hire you'll lose him in a couple years to a bigger/better offer. If nobody is stealing your guys out from under you that's a pretty darning conviction of what you have.

When nobody is stealing your assistants away, it's like you're hosting one of those lame Garage Sales where people come and look but nobody walks away buying anything because all you have are old clothes from the 70's, old counter top appliances that nobody ever uses anymore, old magazines, etc. AT the end of the day you sold nothing and had to haul all the crap to the dump or to the thrift store.

If you have good assistants, other coaches will want them and you will lose them. That's a good thing. Makes your program stronger and brings in a steady stream of fresh ideas to keep your program from getting stagnant.
