I just don't agree with your conclusion. The last paragraph is more opinion than fact and from my understanding, not true and illogical.
To say coaches (at almost every level, especially those in D1 football) don't care about rivalry games is a rather large generalization, especially when nearly all of them PLAYED in the same rivalry game.
